Incognizant of the turbulent life journey that lay ahead, Elias leaves his native country, Zimbabwe, in search of greener pastures in South Africa. The political instability in his beloved country has brought economic recession and agonizing hardship upon the entire land – nothing is ever the same again – and he blames the inordinate ambition of former President Robert Mugabe for all the indescribable miseries besetting the entire nation.
Elias quits his job as a high school teacher, and he is forced to go through horrific channels of illegal footpaths to cross borders into South Africa, leaving his wife and son behind with no source of income. However, things become dark and twisty in South Africa as he is unable not find a job for a very long time. Unemployed, stranded, and broken, he gets immersed into the world of crime. His crimes eventually come back to bite him, leading to his incarceration for twenty years. Having spent time in prison, he is back in Zimbabwe to start a new life where he embarks on a variety of political and developmental activities to rebuild their country.
